Who should join Staking4All nomination pool?
If you are a small DOT holder (between 1–300 DOT) and want to ensure your stake is always active you should definitely join a POOL like our Staking4All Pool! No more worrying that your stake is inactive due to oversubscribed validators.
If you have larger DOT bags you are more than welcome to join the Pool or stake directly on our validator. Staking4All is a long time Polkadot supporter with stable elected nodes on both Polkadot and Kusama.
What are ‘nomination pools’?
The Polkadot ecosystem was designed to use Nominated Proof of Stake (NPOS) which has some great advantages, however one down side is that the minimum DOT required to be able to stake fluctuates. The minimum DOT amount can be seen on polkadot.js.org. At this very moment the minimum you can stake and also have the stake become active is 191 DOT as seen below, for some validators that are oversubscribed you will need probably over 300 DOT. This means that small DOT holders will struggle to participate in staking and might not earn rewards.
Currently nominators with larger DOT holdings have a better chance of receiving staking rewards. Due to current runtime constraints, Polkadot can only have 22500 nominators in the electing set. So if you are a small DOT holder (10–300 DOT ), you are most likely placed in the ‘waiting queue’ and therefore do not get many opportunities to nominate and earn rewards from validators. Then holders smaller than 10 DOT can not even nominate and earn Staking rewards.
Polkadot has released Nomination Pools. Small DOT Holders can join a Nomination Pool. All the DOT of the members in the pool will be combined into ONE BIG NOMINATION. This will count as 1 ‘nomination’ for a validator. This way, all members (big and small dot holders) will receive rewards according to their DOT weight.
